MUNI Award in Science and Humanities secured and with that I am launching my research group at Masaryk University!

30.04.2025

I am thrilled to share that I have been awarded the MUNI Award in Science and Humanities (MASH StG/CoG) – a prestigious early-career funding scheme that enables scientists to establish independent research groups at Masaryk University. This support marks a major milestone on my scientific journey and officially launches our new research group at the Department of Molecular Pharmacology, Faculty of Pharmacy.

My group investigates bioactive specialised metabolites from extremophiles, with a particular focus on Antarctic microbial communities. We are fascinated by how microbes adapt to extreme conditions, the chemical diversity they produce, and the ecological roles of their metabolites.

Our research is structured along two main lines:

  1. Understanding the evolution, diversity, and function of specialised metabolites shaped by life in Antarctic environments.

  2. Exploring their practical potential across biotechnology, biomedicine, and agriculture, where such molecules may offer innovative and sustainable solutions.

To tackle these questions, we combine computational tools, microbiology, synthetic biology, and biological chemistry, building an interdisciplinary platform that allows us to connect ecological insight with molecular and applied perspectives.

In 2026, my group will take a major step forward as we move to the new BioPharma Hub at Masaryk University, fully integrating into the biomedical campus alongside other faculties and research teams. This state-of-the-art environment will provide exceptional infrastructure and open exciting opportunities for collaboration.

We are motivated, grateful, and ready for this new chapter — and we can't wait to see what we build together.

Feel free to reach out if you are interested in collaboration!
