SynBioCZ has been funded—and our team is on board!

Our research team will be part of SynBioCZ – Elevating Czech Excellence in Synthetic Biology for Climate Resilience, a newly funded Horizon Europe Twinning project.

SynBioCZ brings together the Masaryk University community across SciMUNI, PharmMUNI, FI MUNI and CEITEC, together with international partners from CNB-CSIC, Wageningen University & Research and BRIGHT. 

The central goal of the project is to establish a Czech National Hub for Synthetic Biology and strengthen the country's capacity in design-driven, quantitative engineering biology. Through international knowledge exchange, researcher mobility, education, technology transfer and community building, SynBioCZ will connect and further develop the emerging Czech synthetic biology landscape.

With climate resilience at its core, the consortium will explore next-generation biological solutions based on resilient protein systems, extremophilic microorganisms and engineered stress-tolerant crops. These approaches aim to support climate-resilient agriculture, sustainable biomanufacturing and future industrial processes.

Within the project, our team will contribute expertise in Antarctic microorganisms and their biotechnological potential. Together with Luděk Sehnal heading the Czech Collection of Microorganisms and NAtural Products Chemical Biology Lab, we will explore how Antarctic-derived biomolecules can support crop resilience and contribute to climate adaptation. We are also delighted to bring the CARP Microbiology Section (Polar-Bio-Lab) into this growing synthetic biology community.
